Q: What was the best moment while in your pop heyday?

A: “Wow….there were so many. One was performing at Atlantic Records 40th anniversary between Led Zeppelin and The Who! And, getting to know Ahmet Ertegun, performing for Lady Di and meeting her in my cutoff shorts and bandana for my performance of “Electric Youth”! She leaned in and said “you look a heck of a lot more comfortable than me!” She was so cool.”

Q: Did you intentionally step back from the chart game?

A: “Ummmm, is that your polite way of saying “Where the hell have you been?!?” (Laughs!). Actually, I kind of did. Once grunge was in and pop was out I went directly to Broadway in Les Misereables where I was able to show my chops and theater skills and be on top of my game in another genre. I did theater all throughout my childhood and had my Actor’s Equity card by age 11 and Les Miz kicked off my adult love affair with the theater! 17 musicals in 17 yrs followed my run in Les Miz!”

Q: What have you been doing since?

A: “Eight shows a week for the better part of 17 years, film, TV, running my Electric Youth performing, composing, and producing programs for kids, and I’ve never stopped doing concerts. In fact, I am in Orlando now having just headlined Gay Days. I love my audience in general but, the gay community has supported me in a way that no other has.”

Q: What are you doing now?

A: “Doing a recording project that I can’t talk about yet, as well as a film that will blow people’s minds in a really campy way, gearing up for the summer camp, fine tuning a presentation for my reality show, and getting ready to head east for Cirque Dreams Jungle Fantasy at MGM Foxwood! I then go to Asia in the Fall for concerts and promo! Whew!”

Q: What are the chances of a full comeback?

A: “I am ready for my Tina Turner/Cher radio comeback moment! I’ve been counted out so many times but I’m like a boomerang. I keep comin’ back! Actually, I never left. You just hafta know where to find me! A good source is www.deborah-gibson.com.”
