Debbie stopped by KTLA 5 Morning News to talk about her online charity auction and scholarship auditions for her summer camp as well as sing “Only In My Dreams” with back up provided by past scholarship recipients. Auditions for her summer camp are Saturday, May 29, in Hollywood, California and are only by appointment.
The one-week summer camp, “Deborah Gibson’s Electric Youth,” will be held on Monday, July 12, through Friday, July 16, in Hollywood, California. Classes will include vocal technique, pop performance, dance, monologues, music theory, improvisation, stand-up comedy, and musical theater.
Deb’s passion to foster and mentor young performers led her to create “Deborah Gibson’s Electric Youth,” in July 2008. The series of performing arts camps and songwriting/recording intensives provide young people who are serious about embarking on a career in entertainment with arts education in a nurturing, creative, disciplined, and fun atmosphere.
Soon after, Deb founded Gibson Girl Foundation for qualifying youth who desire to attend an entertainment camp, but are unable to afford camp tuition. Gibson Girl Foundation scholarships may be used at any entertainment camp selected by the recipient. Since 2008, Gibson Girl Foundation has provided more than $150,000 in scholarships to kids in need.
With the desire to give talented and devoted young performers the summer of their lives by providing them with scholarships to camps around the world, Deb created “Only In My Jeans” charity auction as a play on her 1987 hit single “Only In My Dreams.” The online auction runs until midnight Pacific on June 1 with 100 percent of the proceeds going to the Gibson Girl Foundation. Deb personally hand collected authentically autographed jeans from some amazing celebs.
