Remembering Michael Jackson
I have always been and will always be a fan of Michael Jackson. I remember asking my parents to buy me the red jacket with glove and sunglasses, which I still have today. He influenced my life, from his music to the way he danced and performed. Michael Jackson will always be the King of Pop. My thoughts and prayers are with his family.
Deborah Gibson states, “I met Michael and he told me he had just watched a Disney special I did. I was blown away by the thought of THE Michael Jackson sitting there watching me on TV. He then invited me to be in his “Liberian Girl” video. I actually was one of the few who got to sing a little snippet live over his vocal. To say it was an honor is an understatement. At 14, I had the red jacket and glove. I was a huge fan. He was a sweet person and lived up to everything you wanted him to be when you met him. He had a receiving line an hour long before his concert at the Forum. To personally meet so many people and then put into his show the energy he put in was astounding. I don’t think it’s about the time someone is on earth but the impact they leave. He did more for humanity and for music in 50 years than anyone could. It’s a shock and I’m most saddened by the fact that a) I believe there was more music in him and b) he leaves behind three young children. Everyone feels this immeasurable loss. He was an American treasure.”
Brian Anthony states, “If you look at who I am as a performer/musician/songwriter/producer – you will see the reflection of 5 influential figures in music that I admire and strive to someday be like. Of that list, Michael Jackson is the very first. It was this icon’s example that first exposed me to what I wanted to evolve into. I am only at the beginning of my road, but, the truth is, I don’t know that I would have come close to getting here if it wasn’t for his creative and powerful inspiration that taught me to follow my passion that feeds a fire – only a performer knows. I am heartbroken by his passing. I will continue on my path as I dance, sing, create – knowing I am a better musician – and a better person – for being touched by his talent – and accompanied by his legacy. To the Jackson family, I offer my sincerest and deepest condolences – as the world morns the loss of an amazing man and celebrates his incredible life and gifts we have been blessed to be left with.”
